ABS-CBN’s The Killer Bride Filipino Drama Review

Hello beautiful people, I know it’s been a while since my last post, I apologize for that and the delay…

I didn’t have too much time to work on any reviews because of life, my work load increased because of the holidays… and I also took some time for myself especially with the fambam as well…

But either way…peace out! I’m back!!!

Luckily…I have a couple of reviews that you can say were at a back burner, need a refresher, look over and to be worked on more.  Either way I apologize for being behind schedule on posting them…

But I do want to clarify, this review will be even more special because this review is my first ever Filipino drama review!!! Woohoo!!! Which I’ve conducted this past week since the finale of a Filipino drama that recently ended…even the basics such my usual intro,  the actors & character description and part of the summary have already been set thanks to Wiki… But on the bright side, I was able to get a refresh, touch this review up to make sure I give all of my thoughts on this…especially since this is going to be my first Filipino drama review on one of my favorite Filipino dramas!!! Hehe… Woohoo!!

But back on this review…

Anyways…you can say…I’ve been watching religiously because I loved it so much!!! My goodness! Also, it has been two weeks since the final episode of and I’m still reeling from it!

Anyways without further ado…

Let’s begin!!!

Disclaimer: Pictures of the show, cast are not mine. And just add, info on the cast I got from Wikipedia,.✌️  By the way, just to sneak in, you can find this Filipino tv drama on Youtube, just not the full episodes sans for the finale episode.  I do hope that Netflix get the rights to broadcast this Filipino show because it is that awesome. Also, I don’t have access but I believe this drama is available on IWantTV.

Anyways been a long time coming and finally presenting…

ABS-CBN’s The Killer Bride Filipino Drama Review

First off… please don’t take what I say seriously… just with a grain of salt, like with music. I do not have a professional degree in film, literature and television… Not at all…nada zilch degree. But I love movies books and tv shows, most especially if they capture my interest somehow. Despite the lack of degree on this area, I will still do this review as a television drama lover and a Filipino drama lover… And just to clarify too, sorry if at some points I might run on with my words or have any grammatical errors… but I will definitely be honest about my thoughts and feelings in this review.

Moving on… I will first talk about the main leads…Maja Salvador, Geoff Eigenmann, Janella Salvador, Joshua Garcia, Lara Precious Quigaman, Miko Raval, Sam Concepcion and Alexa Ilacad…

Please note, some of the character descriptions for the actor’s roles might have some spoliers or hints, so proceed with caution if you are playing on finding ways to watch this drama.

Maja Salvador aka Maja Ross Andres Salvador was born on October 5, 1988. She is a Filipina actress, dancer, singer, model, occasional host and producer. She is currently under the management of ABS-CBN’s Star Magic and is regarded as the “Dance Princess”. She started her career in show business as she played a minor role in 2003-2004’s It Might Be You, a series starring the undeniably talented tandem and loveteam of all time in my opinion, my fave John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo. For the series Salvador garnered her first nomination for Best New Female TV Personality. After It Might Be You, she then started appearing in 2003–present, ASAP. She experienced career growth after playing several minor and supporting roles. She became the leading lady of Sam Milby during the 11th installment of the Precious Hearts Romances series. She, along with Milby, starred in the series entitled 2010’s Impostor. Shortly after, Salvador got another leading role in the miniseries of Wansapanataym entitled 2010’s Inday sa Balitaw.  Maja Salvador played the title role in 2011’s inspirational family drama film, Thelma. She received 2 awards for the category of Best Actress for the film. Besides that, Salvador was also nominated twice. It earned her the Gawad Urian Award and the Film Academy of the Philippines Award for Best Actress. She is widely known for her roles in the TV series Nagsimula sa Puso; Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin; Ina, Kapatid, Anak; The Legal Wife; Bridges of Love and FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano.  In 2017, Salvador rose to prominence for her role as Lily Cruz / Ivy Aguas in Wildflower, a powerful revenge drama where Lilly/ Ivy as the anti-hero protagonist goes against a powerful corrupt family who killed her father and attempted to murder her and her mother. Wildflower was then followed by 2019’s The Killer Bride another revenge drama, but much more intense and leaning more towards the mystery, slasher supernatural side. And this is what, this review will be focused on. Not only that, The Killer Bride also has casted three generation of Salvadors in the cast…Jobelle Salvador who made her return in showbiz through The Killer Bride, Maja Salvador and Janella Salvador, who by blood is Maja’s niece.

In ABS-CBN’s The Killer Bride, Maja Salvador plays Camila Dela Torre / Alba Almeda. The titular of The Killer Bride, who on her wedding day to Vito Dela Cuesta, was framed as the murderer of her fiancé’ brother Javier.  Camila was also pregnant with Vito’s child at the time of her arrest and found guilty. Not to long after, during her imprisonment, she gave birth to girl whom she named Vida. The prison she was jailed in was burned down with her in as well as her daughter in the prison nursery. While surrounded by flames and to her knowledge her baby girl is dead behind the burning nursery, Camila cursed the town those who hurt her and didn’t believe in her innocence. This is where the Killer Bride actually begins… To the knowledge of all of Las Espadas she is dead until not long after it is revealed she is in fact alive and well, just thirsting for revenge and justice. Fabio, the younger brother of her fellow inmate who died in the fire was the one who saved her.  Fabio and her, not as a couple since Camila cannot her heart again, survived and prospered after a dark point in their life and not long after Emma comes into their lives, whom they adopted together and brought light in their lives… But she is forever haunted by her past and the death of her child, that once Emma was old enough and very well educated… Camila trains Emma to be her little solider to bring chaos to Las Espadas and find the truth, prove her innocence, bring out the real killer…which honestly brought out a lot of chaos and secrets to light! And not long after that, she learns that her daughter is alive and tries to find her. Her clues lead her to Luna. But is Luna really her daughter or it is a trick by the true killer and the killer’s one of many accomplices? Or is it Emma really her daughter? The one is never really expressed her love to, but does everything for in secret…

Geoff Eigenmann was born on March 23, 1985 and is a Filipino actor notable for his performances in television. He is also a member of the Eigenmann family of actors. He started out with GMA Network as part of a joint drama series with TAPE Productions and later was part of ABS-CBN’s Star Magic and starred in their shows. After his contract has expired, he moved back to GMA-7 and was chosen by GMA Network to replace JC De Vera in a role for the late-night drama anthology, SRO Cinema Serye first known as Obra). On his return to ABS-CBN, he was casted as Vito dela Cuesta in The Killer Bride, opposite Maja Salvador’s character, which this review is focused on.

In ABS-CBN’s The Killer Bride, Geoff Eigenmann plays Vito dela Cuesta, the youngest son of the Dela Cuesta clan. Who fell deeply in love with a Dela Torre, which is Camila. Upon their marriage day, who was deeply conflicted in the situation that the love of his life is the main culprit to his older brother’s murder. Who had in secret, tried to find the truth in his brother’s murder as well as find Camila’s innocence.  But he ends up having guilt and regrets from hiding from Camila that he does in fact was trying to find the truth to his brother’s murder and finding proof of her innocence, most especially after Camila’s and their baby Vida’s deaths.  He also continues to be haunted and eaten up by guilt even after he marries another and adopts a child with his wife. Since Camila’s and Vida’s passing, haunted by pain and guilt, he still tries to secretly find the truth especially after Emma’s mysterious arrival and Emma’s proclaimed, she was possessed by Camila. Especially since Emma at times reminds him of Camila and himself. Despite that, he tries to secretly and relentlessly find the truth which leads him to in fact that Camila is still alive!

Janella Salvador aka Janella Maxine DesiderioSalvador was born March 30, 1998 and is a Filipino actress and singer. She is the daughter of West End musical actress 1992 Miss Saigon‘s Jenine Desiderio and Juan Miguel Salvador (of the Salvador clan, another long line family of actors), the former lead vocalist of Rage Band. In 2016, she was casted in music drama Born For You, which had sub-par television ratings. Following her Disney in Concert, Kia Theatre performance, Salvador and various Southeast Asian singers adapted Moana’s How Far I’ll go. In 2017, she had her first solo concert, Super Janella, a supporting role in Topel Lee’s Bloody Crayons, and interpretation for a song by Karlo Zabala, “Wow Na Feelings” for Himig Handog 2017, which won 4th Best Song and TFC’S Global Choice Award. In 2018, she top-billed in two films. After portraying a singing mermaid in My Fairy Tail Love Story, she was praised by critics for her role as a love-struck waitress in So Connected.  In 2019, co-starred with Philippines’ Diamond Star Maricel Soriano in The Heiress, based on the Philippine barang / witchcraft folklore. She then made her return to television with horror drama, The Killer Bride, which recently ended and which is what this review is focused.

In ABS-CBN’s The Killer Bride, Janella Salvador plays Emma Sharon Serrano / Emma Bonaobra / Vida D. dela Cuesta? She first appears as the mysterious girl who suddenly appears in the cursed town, Las Espadas, after a freak killing, claiming she is possessed.  When in fact, she is Camila’s adopted daughter who is willing to be Camila’s little solider due to her love and gratitude to Camila and Fabio for taking her off the streets. She was left by “her mother” in front of a church. Camila has always been hard on Emma and taught her the love will only bring her pain and despite feeling the anguish that she isn’t enough for Camila’s motherly love, she still loves Camila and always will choose Camila. Even for her love for music, she threw aside just for her love for Camila.  Once Emma was old enough and well educated, she was sent by still alive Camila to cause chaos in Las Espadas, to help Camila find the true killer of Javier Dela Cuesta, Vito’s brother, as well as proving her innocence. At one point, she learns “her mother” is still alive, but can’t help but feel like “her mother: is hiding a lot of secrets from her and at one point suspects she is the true Vida and hopes she is the true Vida, because she always truly wanted Camila’s love.

She is very well aware and dislikes that fact that despite her father being married and cares for her adoptive mother Tessa, she knows that her father Vito deeply loves Camila. She blames Camila for her family’s dynamics. Despite that she is the queen bee of her group of friends and is happy to have a long-time friend Elias, who she is in love with but who doesn’t love her in the way she wants. She becomes greatly threaten by Emma’s arrival, who obviously gains Elias affection despite Emma’s mysterious chaotic arrival. She treats Emma badly for most of the drama.

Now…I will move on to the short summary and recap of ABS-CBN’s The Killer Bride…

The story begins in Las Espadas, a superstitious town that has been haunted by a deep grudge that was formed between two families…the Dela Cuestas and the Dela Torre…where Belinda Dela Torre was raped and murdered by a Dela Cuesta before her wedding. And not long after that Dela Cuesta was found dead.  Because of that, the grudge between Dela Cuesta and Dela Torre festered and grew for years and years until Vito Dela Cuesta and Camila Dela Torre fell in love and made known to their families that they will have child and marry…

Despite the initial disapproval by their families, Vito and Camila were allowed to wed in hopes their marriage will end the animosity between the families.  But right before Camila Dela Torre’ wedding day, she found by her fiancé Vito in a matching bloody wedding dress and veil beside his older brother’s stabbed corpse. In her murder trial, Camila begs to the court that she has been wrongfully accused and was framed, but is eventually rejected by her own rich, prominent family and fiance Vito dela Cuesta who testifies against her. After giving birth to a beautiful baby girl in prison, a sudden freak fire breaks out in the entire prison facility. Crying, desperate and unable to locate her newborn daughter, her last words exact revenge on every person who falsely accused her and hurt her, all led to her death.

18 years passed and her urban legend is told in the present day by a group of teenagers led by Elias Sanchez. Playfully, they claim that on the day of the blood moon eclipse, the ghost of Camila will possess a new body and kickstart her vow for revenge. As if fulfilling the prophecy, a girl from nowhere, Emma Bonaobra moves to the town after getting a job as the town’s mortuary cosmetologist, she is told of the tale of The Killer Bride but doesn’t believe it until one day Emma wakes up possessed, gatecrashing Camila’s family’s grand party event claiming that she is the long-dead Camila, The Killer Bride. The entire town begin to question her motives.  Making between wonder or not she is telling the truth that this a haunting, Camila’s possession of Emma’s body is really connected the rival dela Torre vs. dela Cuesta families who battled for land and politics—or it is this simply a tale of The Killer Bride cursing the town has finally come true to life.

Finally, I will talk about my thoughts and overall review…

Warning…there might be some hints and spoilers just in case you are playing on watching this…somehow…LOL

First off, I totally love this drama The Killer Bride…one of my favorites! Most especially since it is starring one of my favorite actresses ever! Ms. Maja Salvador!

Anyways this drama is amazing! Undeniably!

Like her previous, Wildflower, it is a revenge drama…but at a different level. The Killer Bride is much darker, mysterious and the intensity is not a different level because it leans more on the supernatural side is some sense while in others parts still try to keep some level of being realistic to viewers too. Even though it is not too much, I felt that the supernatural elements gave the drama some flexibility.  I loved now the story doesn’t get stretched and goes in circles even though there are some twist and turns in story.  I love now it went from mysterious to slasher to crime solving to supernatural. This drama is undeniable well done in my opinion.

Also, the drama wouldn’t be this amazing, if the cast wasn’t amazing as well.  The cast is undeniably talented and all handpicked tailor-made for their roles.  All of them are amazing! I feel like the put up a high-caliber performance and they really brought their A-game! Maja Salvador!  Especially Janella Salvador, Joshua Garcia, Geoff Eigenmann, Miko Raval, Lara Precious Quigaman, James Blanco, Alexa Ilacad and Sam Concepcion! There are others too like Malou De Guzman, Aurora Sevilla, Ariella Arida, Mara Lopez, Pepe Herrera, Neil Coleta, Viveika Ravanes, etc etc.  An amazing ensemble that is for sure.

But the ones I am more focused on Sam Concepcion as Luis Dela Torre is rich charming and debonair, highly influential politician. You can’t help but feel pity for him because of his family dynamics especially between his mom and dad. It is very sad.  Alexa Ilacad as Luna Dela Cuesta, same as Luis except she is not a politician. Lara Precious Quigaman as Alice Dela Torre as the meek kind Alice with a sense of darkness and intensity which I will not give too much away of in case you haven’t watched this yet. Oh my goodness! Mindblown! A revelation for sure! Amazing performance especially since Lara usually plays the good supporting roles. James Blanco as Juan Felipe Dela Torre as the ambitious dark Mayor of Las Espadas. Hands down as amazing actor. Cris Villanueva as Luciano Dela Torre the ambitious elder son of the Dela Torre and uncle to Camila. So intense and dark! Amazing actor!  Miko Raval as Fabio is all man and strong. As a woman, I can’t help but love that he supports and love both Maja and Janella’s characters respectively as Camila the woman he loves and Emma the young woman who he loves as his own daughter. It is beautiful! Yet you can’t help but pity him, since he doesn’t get Camila’s love back, but at the same time still loves her in spite of that. Miko definitely deserves more projects.

Now my thoughts and the main charactors/ actors in this review… Maja Salvador, Geoff Eigenmann, Joshua Garcia and Janella Salvador…

First on Maja Salvador! I loved her in John Lloyd’s and Bea’s One More Chance; disliked her in Pangarap na Bituin; aggravated by her in The Legal Wife; pitied and disliked her in Ina, Kapatid, Anak; thought she was totally badass in Wildflower and now blown away by her in The Killer Bride. In my opinion, she truly deserves all the awards she received over the years and definitely deserves being known as one of the best actors of her generation. She is such a versatile multi-talented actress. Hands down! True that! Also whoever she pairs up with whether they are her main male pair up or the second male lead pair-up…ship them with her character or not…they shine! Also, if Wildflower was totally awesome and badass, here in The Killer Bride I can’t say more instead that She definitely leveled things up in The Killer Bride!

Geoff Eigenmann as Vito Dela Cuesta, the love of Camila’s life who he was going to marry and have a child with but he betrays her by testifying against her… Although he has to tell the truth, since he was the one who discovered her by his older brother’s corpse on their Wedding Day and acting like he didn’t believe her innocence when in fact in secret he was trying to prove her innocence and the truth to his brother’s murder in secret and not telling Camila personally that he believes her and has faith in her innocences.  But he ends up having guilt and regrets from hiding that from Camila most especially after Camila’s and their baby Vida’s deaths in the burning prison.  You can’t help but pity him for it as he continues to be haunted and eaten up by guilt even after he marries another and adopts a child with his wife.  Although compared to Fabio, Fabio does deserve Camila’s love more because Fabio visibly and publicly stood by Camila’ side and not only that Vito cannot be with Camila either way because he after years since his brother’s murder and supposed death, he married another. Anyways although Vito is undeserving of Camila’s love but always be Camila’s true love…Geoff Eigenmann is an amazing actor, his eyes, seems to speak full of emotion.

Now Joshua Garcia as Elias Sanchez / Elias Gonzales…the young man who is both conflicted by his feelings for Emma but strives to find the truth.  Like Geoff, Joshua is such an amazing actor and the emotions seem to be expressed well from his eyes. But one thing, that I can say is that is upcoming actor reminds me of my favorite Filipino actor of all time…John Lloyd Cruz! And that says a lot! Anyways Joshua is definitely going to be one of the best actors of his generation!

And Joshua Garcia’s chemistry with his leading lady…Janella Salvador is really strong and beautiful. You can’t help but get giddy when you see them on screen together! You can practically fill the tension and the budding romance between their characters.  They are such a young gorgeous refreshing pair. I will get more on them a bit…but for now… last but not the least…

Finally, Janella Salvador as Emma Sharon Serrano / Emma Bonaobra / Vida D. dela Cuesta?  When she is first introduced in the story, she was seemed so innocent but was also an enigma who soon became scarely amazing as being a possessed body with Maja’s Camila’s mannerisms and talking style on point and then true vulnerable kind-hearted Emma.  Janella Salvador is amazing in The Killer Bride. Like Lara Precious Quigaman, she is a revelation! But one thing for sure, this drama is definitely her time to shine! This is because she plays roles and not her being Emma Sharon Serrano / Emma Bonaobra / Vida D. dela Cuesta? ! Not that, but….like a mention a couples sentences back…Emma the mysterious and strong, Camila in Emma’s body and the true Emma.  The crazy thing is though, Janella although still a young actress, has a background in horror movies as well as the bubbly young hearted ones already!  So she really got the scarey down and innocence down already.  Janella is definitely an talented versatile actress in her generation and she truly deserves to be called a Salvador! Heck! By blood, she is really Maja Salvador’s niece and that says a lot! Like I mentioned on Joshua Garcia, her chemistry with him is undeniably, the attraction between their characters they definitely expressed it well especially the hints tension. They are so cute and their scenes together are just magical and feel of emotion! So intense! They are definitely a pair to look forward too if their entertainment channel ABS-CBN decides to make them a loveteam! If they do became one, compared to their previous pair-ups, they are a definite much watch!

Anyways if you made it up to here… Thank you so much for taking the time to read my review of ABS-CBN’s The Killer Bride! Hopefully, this review builds your curiosity in checking out this awesome Filipino drama and other Filipino dramas!!!

Hopefully Netflix picks this up because it is such an undeniable awesome show. It has all the elements of one! Anyways this drama is undeniably amazing and a much watch!
