The Untamed: The Living Dead Chinese Movie Review

Hello beautiful people, I hope you all are doing well and are staying at home, safe and healthy…

Anyways …I have a couple of reviews that you can say were at a back burner, need a refresher, look over and to be worked on more. And this is one of them…due to my very, very long to watch and review list…😅✌

Either way I apologize for being behind schedule on posting this review. But on the bright side, I was able to touch this up …  To make sure I gave all of my thoughts on this…especially since this is the first review Chinese movie I am posting in while…especially for this month of May!!! Hehe… Woohoo!!

Disclaimer: Pictures of the show, cast are not mine. And just add, info on the cast I got from Wikipedia, MyDramaList and Asian wiki.✌️  By the way, just to sneak in, you can find this Chinese movie on Viki and iQIYI phone app…

Anyways been a long time coming and finally presenting…

The Untamed: The Living Dead Chinese Movie Review

First off… please don’t take what I say seriously… just with a grain of salt, like with music. I do not have a professional degree in film, literature and television… Not at all…nada zilch degree. But I love movies books and tv shows, most especially if they capture my interest somehow. Despite the lack of degree on this area, I will still do this review as a movie lover… And just to clarify too, sorry if at some points I might run on with my words or have any grammatical errors… but I will definitely be honest about my thoughts and feelings in this review.

Moving on… I will first talk about the main leads cast of The Untamed: The Living Dead…Paul Yu and Zheng Fan Xing…

Paul Yu is a Chinese male singer, host, and one of the M4M members of the men’s singing group. In 2009, a dance video was uploaded to the network with friends and soon signed by Xingtian Media. In March 2013, he officially debuted with the singing group M4M. In 2014, he joined Luo Yusheng to join the visual broadcast program Talking Stars M4M show time as the host.

In The Untamed: The Living Dead, Paul Yu plays Wen Ning aka The Ghost General. He is the right-hand man of Wei Wuxian during Wuxian’s time as the Yiling Patriarch. During The Untamed, he was known as a shy person and a stutterer when he was alive due to his strange illness and grew to trust Wei Wuxian after being showered with kindness by him. As a fierce living corpse or living puppet, he is prone to outbursts of anger, but otherwise remains innocent, gentle, and shy. After the events of The Untamed… parting ways with Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji in The Untamed , Wen Ning aka the Ghost General and Lan Shi Zhi aka Lan Yuan a fellow last descendant of the Wen Sect… They set out on a new adventure and night hunts…

Zheng Fan Xing is a Chinese actor. In 2018, he starred in the man-made work directed by Dong Yiyu called Become a Star Today. In April 2019, he starred in the costumed drama Chen Qingling which was directed by Zheng Weiwen and Chen Jialin.

In The Untamed: The Living Dead, Zheng Fan Xing plays Lan Si Zhui aka Lan Yuan. He was previously known as Wen Yuan, now called Lan Yuan. He is an disciple of Lan sect. As Wen Yuan, he was raised by Wei Wuxian before the tragedy fell upon his relatives. As a survivor of the Wen Sect tragedy and Wei Wuxian’s death, he was later brought back to the Lan sect by Lan Wangji. He is a calm and elegant individual who carries himself intelligently and sensibly, and is very mature for his age. As a child, he was more of a troublemaker. He is close friends with Lan Jingyi and Jin Ling. After the events of The Untamed… parting ways with Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji in The Untamed , Lan Shi Zhi aka Lan Yuan andWen Ning aka the Ghost General… as last descendants of the Wen Sect set out on a new adventure and night hunts…

Now…I will move on to the short summary of The Untamed: The Living Dead

Since this is a summary…there will definitely be spoilers so if you are interested in the film, haven’t watch it yet and don’t want to be spoiled…scroll down to my overall review…LOL…Peace…

Anyways back with the short summary of The Untamed: The Living Dead

After parting ways with Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji in The Untamed , Wen Ning aka the Ghost General and Lan Shi Zhi aka Lan Yuan, the last descendants of the Wen Sect set out on a new adventure and night hunts…

Wen Ning travels to a little town near Qishan Mountain called Fu Feng aka City Thst Never Turns Dark. It was once a lively town, now filled with people the weak and sick are also living in terror because of the recent murders from a ghost….

When the night arrives, Wen Ning purposefully lit up a lamp to attract the murderous ghost. Just as he was about to capture it… a ray of blue sword light appears and the ghostly black shadow disappears. Wen Ning looks up, and sees his famillar friend and fellow Wen descendant, Lan Sizhui.

Wen Ning and Lan Shi Zhui then decide to work together…to save the town and solve the mystery of the ghost.

In their investigation, they discover that the ghost is related to the downfall of the Xiao family, a once powerful family in Fu Feng town. The Xiao family was famous for creating lanterns. They also meet the Xiao family’s 2nd young master, Xiao Yi, who is the only survivor of the Xiao family and who has also been haunted by the ghost every night. Though timid and easily frightened, Xiao Yi helps give information to Wen Ning and Lan Si Zhui to carry on their mission to save the town and solve the mystery of the ghost.

However, the more they try to solve the mystery behind the ghost and the Xiao family, they come to realize that Xiao Yi might not be as innocent as he appears…

Finally, I will talk about my thoughts and overall review…

Just to clarify this will be a somewhat short review since I decided to give a summary of the movie instead…

First off, I totally adore and love the main leads of The Untamed: The Living Dead Paul Yu and Zheng Fan Xing…who respectively play Wen Ning aka The Ghost General and Lan Shi Zhui aka Lan Yuan! I truly felt they played the roles well and really kept me hooked into the xanxia film, which is a movie spinoff of popular controversial but popular and awesome Chinese drama The Untamed! Just to add, I found that both Paul Yu and Zheng Fan Xing…who respectively play Wen Ning aka The Ghost General and Lan Shi Zhui aka Lan Yuan in the drama The Untamed, were absolutely adorable. Will get more into that later in drama review of The Untamed. Please watch out for my review of The Untamed, currently working on it and will post it real soon 😉✌. I honestly watched the drama first but decided to work on the The Untamed: The Living Dead Movie Review first. 😅✌Anyways…The Untamed drama can be watched on Viki and Netflix.

Anyways, back to my review on the movie spin-off…The Untamed: The Living Dead

Yes, there were some slow parts particularly in the first five to ten minutes of the film but I still felt that this movie was worth the watch.

On the movie plot of The Untamed: The Living Dead…I thought it is both intriguing and interesting plot… with Wen Ning and Lan Shi Zhui work together to save the town of Fu Feng who are living in terror because of the recent murders from a ghost and solve the mystery of the ghost and its connection of the Xiao family to the murderous ghost; and realizing that Xiao Yi, the second son of the Xiao family might not be as innocent as he appears…

This movie gives me the urge to see another The Untamed spinoff The Untamed: The Fatal Journey ! Which I will also make a Movie Review of as well! Which is now available on iQIYI but you need be a pay for subscription. And it will soon be available to watch on Viki! Will wait patiently for that!

Overall, I thought this xanxia movie spinoff was amazing! It is worth the watch and if you are interested in checking it out, it is available on Viki and iQIYI phone app!!!

Anyways if you made it up to here… Thank you so much for taking the time to read my review of The Untamed: The Living Dead!!!  Hopefully, this review builds your curiosity in checking out this awesome Chinese movie!!!
