No Mercy Korean Movie Review

Hello again, it’s been a while…

I hope all of you are doing well and are safe…

Anyways…

I’ve binged watched this Korean movie this past weekend…  and I made sure I gave all my thoughts on this…especially since this is in my 1st ever Korean movie review for the month of September!!!

Anyways been a long time coming and finally presenting…

No Mercy Korean Movie Review

Disclaimer: Pictures of the show, cast are not mine. And just add, info on the cast I got from Wikipedia, MyDramaList and Asian wiki.✌️

No Mercy is also called Eonni and it can be found on AsianCrush and will be available soon on Viki!

Anyways…

First off… please don’t take what I say seriously… just with a grain of salt, like with music. I do not have a professional degree in film, literature and television… But I do LOVE movies, books and tv shows, most especially if they capture my interest somehow.

And…

Despite the lack of degree, I will still do this Korean Movie review as a Korean show lover and a Movie lover…. And just to clarify too, I apologize for any run-ons or any grammatical errors… But I will definitely be honest about my thoughts and feelings in this review.

Anyways…

I will first talk about the main actress of No Mercy…Lee Si-young..

Lee Si-young is a South Korean actress and a former amateur boxer. She acting debut in 2008 in a guest appearance on season 3 of the Super Action TV procedural Urban Legends Deja Vu, followed by the historical drama “The Kingdom of The Winds”. In 2009, she began to gaining attention with several high-profile supporting roles… Which includes her role as of Sakurako Sanjo in the source manga Hana Yori Dango, who was mercilessly teased for being homely as a young girl, then undergoes extensive plastic surgery and becomes a backstabbing frenemy to win the heart of her tormentor in the smash hit Boys Over Flowers. She rose to mainstream popularity when she joined the cast of We Got Married, a reality show about fake married couples, and was paired with Jun Jin of the KPOP boy band Shinhwa, and were dubbed as the “Gundam couple” by fans because of their mutual love of the anime. She and Jun Jin began dating off-screen, making them the first couple to officially have a real relationship outside the show. But after dating for 6 months, they broke up in September 2009. She was casted in other variety shows and dramas as well. She was most notably known for her reputation of making her second-lead roles memorable and endearing, giving her characters a human, lovable side despite their role as antagonists in the narrative. Following that, she starting starring and began headlining other roles, whether film or dramas.

In No Mercy, Lee Si-young plays the main role in this film, No Mercy by the name of In Ae. A woman who was falsefully jailed for two years, and was recently released.  Upon her release, all she wants to be with and take care of her younger sister Eunhye, who is mentally retarded to the age of 10 and whom she took care of since they lost their parents. Eunhye only wants to be with In Ae too. But things aren’t that easy for them… because the next day, Eunhye doesn’t return from school…

Moving on…

The summary recap of No Mercy

The story begins with Inae, who was falsely charged, is released from prison. Eunhye, her younger sister, is an 18-year-old high school student with the mental age of a ten-year-old, is happy that In Ae is back and welcomes her. In Ae adore Eunhye, who means the world to her. They get together that night with a small reunion party, and hope for nothing but happiness for them in the future… All they want to be happy and together forever…

But things aren’t easy for them…

That’s because the next day, Eunhye doesn’t return from school…

Inae reports her missing to the police and asks her teacher for help, but no one seems to care about Eunhye’s whereabouts.

Devastated and upset by the fact that society does not care for the weak, Inae goes and investigates all by herself…

And what she finds out, pisses her off!

She learns that her sister suffered violence and sexual abuse from school bullies. Not only that, Eunhye has been passed on from a loan shark, to a massage parlor, then to someone else.

With In Ae hot on the trail and not giving up on her quest to bring back her sister Eunhye back to her…

Her path leads her to even more shocking secrets from her sister’s past abuses: the owners of a convenience store, photo studio, and car repair shop all raped her a few years ago.

Provoked by fury and devastated that she was unaware that her younger sister went through so much pain and suffering, it is now payback time!

To help her sister, to find and save her, and to survive… In Ae’s brutal revenge begins…

Now my actual review which is honestly will be much shorter than the summary of the story…

This is because I do not want to spoil the movie too much even thought I kind of already did in the summary…

First and foremost….

Lee Si-young is totally badass!!! I so want to see her in action femme fatale movie like Kim Ok-vin was in the The Villainess!

In a sense, Lee Si-young is badass here in No Mercy…but not really femme fatale…she was more on the fight to the death no holds barred kind of badassness!

I find it awesome the entire time she is kicking butt in the red dress and heels that her little sister gave her, the moment found out that her sister is missing and her sister’s bad classmates harrassed and betrayed her little sister…

Anyways I felt that not only is she a pretty talented actress but is also a skilled woman when it comes to combat! Interestingly enough, she is a former amateur boxer.

In my opinion, like Kim Ok-vin….Lee Si-young is the epitome of a badass woman!!!

In No Mercy as In Ae, you can’t help but root for her and feel sorry for her…and also admire her badassness and for her love for her sister!

The rest of the cast did well in their roles too whether they are major, supporting or major characters!

Anyways…

On the movie itself, even though the storyline is slightly cliché or similar to other fight to the death movies I’ve watched, that is… if along the lines of woman turning into an desperate mother getting payback against her child’s violators while fighting for survival in order to rescue her child….But in this case, it is an older sister desperately hunting down her sister’s violators and rescuing her sister…… I still enjoyed the movie!

Yes, it does have some slow parts but once the story gets going and the action comes in. To me, it becomes dynamic and close to heart stopping. And you can’t help but get worked up especially towards the perpretators!

Only thing is…what bothered me was all the bad and terrible things that happened to In Ae’s sister, Eunhye besides the fact that Eunhye is an 18-year-old high school student with the mental age of a ten-year-old, which made my heart sad for both Eunhye and In Ae…

This is because, it must be tough but at the same time, you can tell their sisterhood is so strong…

While my heart ache for Eunhye and my mind got so disturbed and shocked along with all the revelations that on top of the bullying she received in school…Disgusting men have been taking advantage of her mental illness just to have their ways with her as well as a terrible lowlife using her to get his revenge at In Ae for beating him up for taking advantage of her…. That lowlife deserves the beating of course! Including those disgusting men! It’s a miracle that In Ae beat them up and surprisingly all of them are still alive! Because they all did terrible despicable acts on Eunhye, that In Ae would give them exactly what their asking for…a brutal beat down! Although my guess is that In Ae, let them live is because not only she is a good person, deep inside, if she kills any one of those scumbags and she gets arrested…she really won’t see her sister for a long time either cause she might get sentenced to death if she kills them all. Either way, those guys deserve a beating all their lives, death is too much of a easy way out.

I felt my anger rising as well as my blood pressure rising because of them! But like I said earlier, you can’t help but get worked up by them!

Anyways, I highly recommend No Mercy! It is an awesome movie!

But fair warning…. like my previous posts, such as JAILBREAK, MARIA and BUYBUST, there is intense action fight scenes, so this movie No Mercy is so not for kids! Also what makes this movie also NOT suitable for kids is the implied sexual offense against the younger sister.
