The Romance of Tiger and Rose AKA Known As: Chuan Wen Zhong De San Gong Zhu , The Third Princess From the Rumors , The Rumored Third Princess , 传闻中的三公主 , The rumored Chen Qianqian

First off… please do not take what I say seriously… just with a grain of salt, like with music. I do not have a professional degree in film, literature, and television… But I do LOVE movies, books and tv shows, most especially if they capture my interest somehow.

And…

Despite the lack of degree, I will still do this Chinese Rom-Coms review as a Tv show lover and a Chinese Rom-com / drama series lover…. And just to clarify too, I apologize for any run-ons or any grammatical errors… But I will be honest about my thoughts and feelings in this review.

Anyways…

Moving on… I will first talk about the main leads of The Romance of Tiger and Rose, and they are Ding Yu Xi and Zhao Lu Si …

Ding Yu Xi is a Chinese actor, who made his acting debut in the movie The Game of Asura in 2017.  But what rose him to popularity was in 2018 his supporting role of Dongfang Bubai in the drama New Smiling Proud Wanderer as well as his participation in two variety shows, PhantaCity and I Actor, where he won first place. In 2019, he starred in the drama Just an Encore and later on the male lead in Reset Life with his fellow 8 final winners.  Then in 2020, he starred in two romance dramas Intense Love and The Romance of Tiger and Rose that earned him the title of “May Boyfriend.” He is well known for playing Han Shuo in The Romance of Tiger and Rose.

Zhao Lu Si – 赵露思 – Rakuten Viki

In The Romance of Tiger and Rose, Zhao Lu Si plays Chen Xiaoqian/Chen Qianqian, screenwriter/third princess of Huayuan city. As Chen Xiaoquian, she is a screenwriter wouldn’t hardly believe what she’s seeing: her work, come to life! Proud of the effort she put into creating this epic tale, she expected things on-set to go quickly and smoothly. But all her hopes are soon crushed as her script falls under the critical scrutiny of both the cast and crew. She is then somehow transported to the world of her making and as now become the Third Princess, Chen Qian Qian, an insignificant side character with a horrible reputation and a short lifespan.

Now…I will move on to the summary recap of The Romance of Tiger and Rose

Chen Xiao Qian has dedicated her entire life to making her dream of becoming a well-respected screenwriter come true!

Standing on the production set of the drama she penned through endless blood, sweat, and tears…

She couldn’t hardly believe what she’s seeing: her work, come to life! Proud of the effort she put into creating this epic tale, Xiao Qian expects things on-set to go quickly and smoothly. But all her high-hopes are soon crushed as her script falls under the critical scrutiny of both the cast and crew.

Hurt by the harsh criticism of her peers especially from that of the male main lead pointing out the inconsistencies of her plot and that she doesn’t know what love is.

Xiao Qian vows to prove herself but things don’t go exactly the way she planned.

She is mysteriously transported into the pages of her own story, Xiao Qian has now become the Third Princess, Chen Qian Qian, an insignificant side character with a horrible reputation and a short lifespan. And what is even more crazy is the Third Princess who she currently, she penned to be killed by the male lead’s charater Han Shou, not too long after her arrived in the pages of her story. What’s also crazy is Han Shou, looks exactly like the male actor who pointed out all the inconsistences to her plot and harshly questioned her about her knowledge about love!

Desperate to change her fate, Xiao Qian vows to do whatever it takes to ensure her survival. But her journey ahead won’t be easy, especially not after she catches the attention of both the arrogant and manipulative prince, Han Shuo, who happens to be the male lead who is scheduled to kill her character and the impossibly perfect Minister of Education, Pei Heng.

Wandering through a world of her own creation, Xiao Qian is desperate, not only to survive, but to keep her heart intact as she tries to find her way back home to her own world!

Thus, leading to the beginning of her story….in her story of her own creation…

Anyways…

Finally, I will talk about thoughts and overall review on The Romance of Tiger and Rose

The Romance of Tiger and Rose is such a adorable, cute rom-com!

Yes! This drama wasn’t totally perfect and it has some plot holes, but for me I didn’t mind too much because I love the fact that it was very light, and refreshing!

The drama might not be totally perfect, but I found it forgivable because it is a rom-com and I found the story’s plot interesting…

It’s interesting in the sense that a young woman who dreams to who dreams of becoming a well-respected screenwriter gets heavily criticized by the cast and crew, especially the male lead actor of the drama points out the inconsistencies of her plot and that she doesn’t know what love is.

She gets pushed to rewrite it, but before she does she suddenly gets thrusts into the world she created and becomes the Third Princess, Chen Qian Qian, an insignificant side character with a horrible reputation and a short lifespan. And what is even more crazy is the Third Princess who she currently, she penned to be killed by the male lead’s character Han Shou… Thus she ends up working her way to only to survive, but to keep her heart intact as she tries to find her way back home to her own world! I found the plot interesting because the main female lead suddenly has to survive in the world she’d created! And in the process of her trying to survive and getting caught up in love triangles, she starts to learn and see what the cast and crew and male lead actor were talking about that were inconsistences in her plot…

Such as spoiler alert…

In screenwriter Chen Xiaoqian’s original plot for her screenplay, the story is that the Second Princess of Huayuan City, Chen Chuchu to be her heroine and the hero/antagonist, the prince of Xuanhu city, Han Shou were arranged to marry…

But, upon the Prince Han Shou’s arrival in Huayuan City to marry the Second Princess, whom he never met before just but aiming to marry the Second Princess to fulfill his motives despite knowing the fact that he Second Princess maybe the heir to Huayuan City but rumored to be the illegitimate adopted daughter of the Queen… Han Shou runs into a commotion that led to him to save mysterious, a young woman in red…..whom he has a deeply staring moment with…

The young woman in red is Chen Qianqian, who he is not aware… is in fact the Third Princess, the rumored true heir of Huayuan City just that she has a horrible reputation, which wasn’t really expounded to much but the gist of it is she likes visiting brothels, is beautiful but immature, spoiled, by her mother especially sisters even though she like to take from them, and owes alot of money…

Anyways…

Upon Han Shou saving Chen Qianqian, they learn eachother’s identities, and Chen Qianqain decides steal her sister’s groom to be, Han Shou, marries him and not long after Chen Qianqian gets kills by Han Shou on the night of their wedding… And from there, the Second Princess of Huayuan City, Chen Chuchu and the prince of Xuanhu city, Han Shou tragic love story begins…

Anyways…

Like the cast and crew…and the male lead actor…I also found her plot weird and inconsistent…especially since Chen Qianqian and Han Shou has such an intense first meeting that leads to Chen Qianqian to steal and marry her sister’s groom…but then our screenwriter Chen Xiaoqian has Qianqian killed off by Han Shou the night of their wedding!

There are many other inconsistencies as well. But will not spoil anymore then that…

But one thing that is obvious is that with our screenwriter Chen Xiaoqian who ended up as Chen Qianqian in the world she created, that plot hole is quickly remedied and for sure when she gets back to her actual world she knows exactly who to match whom with!

Moving on…

I felt that all the actors portrayed their characters and their parts well. But I especially loved and totally adored the main leads of The Romance of Tiger and Rose, Ding Yu Xi and Zhao Lu Si who respectively played Han Shou and Chen Xiaoqian/Chen Qianqian… They were absolutely adorable and I loved their chemistry!

The banter between their characters was so cute and funny and they totally expressed the growing love and adoration their characters had for eachother as well as their character’s growths which was greatly influenced by their character’s growing understanding of eachother and eachother’s city’s customs….as Huayuan City is female -run and Xuanha City is male-run…

I also found it amusing that Chen Xiaoqian /Chen Qianqian had her servant searched for the best storytellers and writers in Huayuan City to help her with her “dilemmas” in a guise of a story she is working on. So whenever, she runs into issues about her and Han Shou and are in need for the to get advice from them, in a guise of the story she is supposedly writing she refers to the characters as Ms. Orange and Mr. Banana!

I also loved the main characters, Han Shou and Chen Xiaoqian/Chen Qianqian’s relationship with their respective servants…Baiji and Zi Rui! Both of them are loyal, hilarious and knows their masters real well and the first ones to witness their masters’s changes, and their masters’ growing attraction for eachother!

In general…

The rom-com drama’s story may not perfect due to the inconsistencies with the gender swap dynamics presented in the female/ matriarchal setting… I do give that a slight pass since this is one of the topics that Chen Xiaoqian’s fellow cast and crew were also criticizing her about in the very beginning of the drama! So pretty much can guess from there that they will somehow resolve this as the story progress or as our screenwriters sees for herself how the world she created works out while she is currently stuck in it.

But either way… it was pretty good and entertaining rom-com drama, and like I said before light and refreshing! I highly recommend this drama especially if you want a pick me up and fawn over the cuteness!

I so hope their is a Season Two for this drama, whether it is in the real world or back in the world Chen Xiaoqian created. But mostly likely by the way the drama ended, if there is a Season Two it will be in the real world….

Spoiler of ending by the way…if you don’t what know….skipped to the next next paragraph please…

Anyways this as I was saying by the way the drama ended, if there is a Season Two it will be in the real world… since the male actor who was assigned as the male lead in her screenplay and who also looks like Han Shou, got into an accident around the same time she went into and returned to her world, and when they met got bit and pieces of what happened to Han Shou and Chen Xianqian in the world of the screenplay, thus making him Chen Xiaoqian’s Han Shou!

If there will be a Season Two, I will definitely look forward for that and I do hope that it will be with the same actors!

If you want adorable-ness and a feel good, pick me up! Something light and refreshing! I highly recommend this Chinese Rom-Com Drama!
